Woodward Avenue is one of Detroit's five major avenues and runs from the city center to the affluent suburbs. The photographs in this book were taken in 2015, partly on foot and partly from the passenger seat of a car. Arranged in sequence in the form of a book, the images convey the changes in the urban fabric along the route and thus the changing social and economic conditions in the different parts of Detroit that were traversed.
Furthermore, the footage shot from a moving car refers to Detroit's history as the birthplace of the automobile and to the way in which the cityscape is constructed with regard to its visibility for drivers. The images taken as a pedestrian cover part of the route that was later traveled by car. In this way, two different perspectives and speeds of movement are contrasted, relating to different modes of mobility and different levels of access to the city for people.

WOODWARD is a conceptual photobook on the level of conent as well as of form. The images were taken along Woodward Avenue from central Detroit to the rich suburbs to hint at socio-economic changes. It is printed in large format thus blurring the margin between photobook & photographic print. The print quality rubs off against the spiral binding.
